Pacific Western Transportation, the parent company of Toronto Airport Express, continues to work diligently to preserve the environment and conserve resources. Our dedication to the environment is
illustrated daily by our drivers and is just one of the reasons our environmental policy has become so effective.
In August, Pacific Western Transportation received the 2008 Idle-Free Certificate of Recognition from the Niagara Parks Commission. The Award is in recognition of our outstanding support of the Niagara River Corridor's Spare The Air Emissions Reduction Program.
This award serves as a catalyst for Pacific Western to help progressively improve the environment for years to come. Currently we empower our drivers through education and training in environmentally conscious methods of motor coach operation. Working alongside our drivers, Pacific Western has implemented contingency systems including the capability to remotely shut off engines deemed to be idling unnecessarily. Our entire fleet of motor coaches is kept in peak condition with dedicated maintenance staff ensuring they are always operating safely and efficiently 365 days a year. As an organization, we look forward to new opportunities in order to make a positive change for our environment.
Niagara River Corridor's Spare The Air Emissions Reduction Program: This program focuses on improving air quality by reducing the idling times of motor coaches and transport trucks along the Niagara River Corridor. Overall, the program operates using three levels of monitoring and correcting that include: benchmark monitoring of idle times, driver interventions, mid-program monitoring, another interventions stage and then final monitoring.
Since 2001, the program has played an integral role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 28,000 tonnes within the area. For more information pertaining to the program, feel free to visit the Niagara Parks Commission website.
